Mondo Romance- Debut Album

Gold Of My Own

Gold Of My Own started as a casual collaboration between Vanessa Freeman and Chris Pedley over 15 years ago. Two budding young talents created this fresh and infectious collection of tunes before inadvertently shelving the project when other opportunities took them in different directions. Vanessa went on to perform and record within the Nu-Jazz and Broken Beat scenes and has worked and toured with artists such as Mr Scruff, Azymuth, Bugs In The Attic, Kyoto Jazz Massive and Herbie Hancock. Chris Pedley founded funk titans "The Baker Brothers," who continue to be a driving force on the funk and soul scene. Chris's production highlights include credits on Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained, Ubiquity Records and all of The Baker Brothers back catalogue. Since having gained international recognition in their own rights, Vanessa and Chris decided the time was right to re-establish their musical partnership and finish what they started nearly 15 years on!

Mondo Romance was written and recorded in 2001 on an old school sampler. The album reflects some of the more edgy, lo-fi quirks of the era. Mondo Romance was finished in 2015 at IFF studios. Chris Pedley drew production inspiration from the likes of Guru, Erikah Badu, Common, D'Angelo and Portishead. He continued building a quirky yet soulful platform for Vanessa Freeman to weave her inspirational vocal hooks around. The album has strong Jazz/Latin threads and oozes sunshine.
